Our History
Eight years ago, Dr Monica Lizarralde, a medical aesthetician with over 25 years of experience, seeking to combine her vast knowledge of aesthetic medicine with the natural benefits provided by the oil extracted from the nut of the Cacay tree, founded Oricay, a cosmetic brand with the objective of offering exceptional, sustainable beauty products embracing Colombian biodiversity.
At the same time and to ensure the highest quality of its products, Dr. Lizarralde beganthe plantation of her own Cacay trees in the Colombian Eastern Plains. Here, the oil extraction process is meticulously cared for, respecting the ancestral knowledge of local communities, harvesting the Cacay nuts by hand and processing them with environmentally friendly methods.
Hence, Oricay brings to the cosmetic world an innovative and high-quality product for skin care and beauty in harmony with nature.
THE CACAY
For some years now, the fruit of the Cacay tree has been experiencing a renaissance as a natural and sustainable ingredient in the beauty and medicine industries. Its healing properties and rich cultural heritage are valued around the world. Many of the ancestral beliefs about the benefits of the Cacay tree have been validated by modern medicine, which has positioned it as an ideal component for skin care products.
The Cacay tree, scientifically known as Caryodendron Orinocense Karst, is an oleaginous species found in some regions of South America, mainly in the Orinoco and Amazon regions.
The Cacay is a leafy tree with deep green foliage that reaches 20 meters in height and produces an oval fruit that is harvested only once a year. On the inside of the fruit there is a nut containing three seeds from where the precious Cacay oil is extracted, which is rich in polyphenols, mainly Omega 6 and natural vitamins such as A and E.
Our Plantation
Our plantation is located at the heart of the Colombian Orinoco region, in the Eastern plains of the Casanare department. As it is our own plantation, Oricay seeks to ensure that its oil maintains an excellent quality and purity by permanently monitoring the planting, harvest, post-harvest, and extraction.
From its plantation, Oricay obtains the Cacay oil through mechanical cold pressing and subsequent microfiltration, a process that allows maintaining the natural properties of its components.
Besides being the source of the beauty elixir of our Oricay oil, our plantation has a positive impact and ecological value for the region respecting and preserving biodiversity and the environment.
